Once upon a midnight clear,
When stars were bright and moon seemed near,
A hound did howl throughout the night
And in one breath, an owl took flight.
His feathers were as soft as down
(All the better not to make a sound)
His goal was there, beyond the trees-
He could spy her through the leaves.
Her moonlit hair shone like Ravenswing
And starlit-eyed glance made Cupid's bow sing.
She'd called to him; he willingly obeyed-
Her power over him could not be swayed.
The thirteenth strike would make her his,
But Fate could not abide this tithe.
She fought; he fell, with seconds to spare-
